After the war, the railway industry in Britain was nationalised and British Railways came into being. It wasn’t long before steam was seen as being outdated and people were looking to the future. When the government announced the Modernisation Plan in the mid-50’s it seemed Flying Scotsman’s time was up. British Railways was looking to the new diesel and electric trains, and the plan was to scrap the old steam locos
