The Tower can have as many as 15,000 visitors a day. But once opening hours are over, they all have to leave. The Yeoman Warders are skilled in the art of departure, emptying the Tower of tourists as quickly, politely and efficiently as possible. Everyone joins from Chief Yeoman Warder Pete McGowran to Merlina, the Tower’s oldest raven. Once the Tower is closed to the public, its atmosphere completely changes. Yeoman Warder Chris Clawson shows us what the thousand-year-old building is like after dark, and Ravenmaster Chris Skaife puts his cherished birds to bed.
