Britain’s Cathedrals With Tony Robinson – 9 June 2021 – 9/6/2021 – Wednesday – SBS

Built more than 1,400 years ago, Canterbury Cathedral is both a holy place and a World Heritage site. It is the `mother church’ for more than 85 million people, and one of the biggest tourist attractions in the UK with nearly a million visitors a year. Tony tells the tale of the cathedral’s founding and how, after the cathedral burnt down, it was rebuilt by the Normans as a symbol of their power. He also explores how it became wealthy thanks to its role as a major site of pilgrimage following the infamous murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket.
